I'm a 32 year old SBF here in Japan teaching conversational english. One may ask, "What led to my decision to do this?" I would say that a variety of factors played a role in my decision, but I'm glad I made it. I'm a black girl found.....

June 24, 2007- Sunday

I'm back..............I haven't written in here for a while because of various reasons....I went to Kyoto and Osaka in late May and after that I moved to be closer to my work location. I currently don't have access to the Internet like I did in the past, but I should be able to be more frequent now....at least once a week. So much has happened in the last month and a 1/2. Kyoto was nice. I saw a Maiko show, which is for all of you westerners, a young lady...usually between 15-17 that looks like a Geisha.....in Kyoto they don't really say Geisha...they say Gaiko....I'm probably spelling it wrong, but that's my understanding of it....I'm going to try and upload some pictures and a video from the experience. Osaka was awesome.....I ate Okonomiyaki for the first time....Negi-yaki to be exact....it was oiyshi....delicious...

Part of the reason I took this job in Japan was to experience another culture....to see the differences and similarities, and I realize that although the west is different from the east, there really are so many more similarities than differences. We all laugh, cry, experience joy, and even pain the same way. I've also realized that young people are the same everywhere it seems.....at least from what I've experienced in America and now in Japan...one example is of when I went to the 99 yen shop. I went there to pick up some bottled water and a few other items.....the total came to 936 yen, and so I gave the store clerk 1036 yen. She happened to be a teenager...anyway, she put 1031 in the computer by accident and it said that I should get 95 yen back....when she saw the 5 extra cents that I had given her, she realized it was too late to enter it in again.....so instead of giving me 100 yen, she proceeded to take out a calculator and to find out the correct change she should give me.....I just looked in astonishment because truth be told....there are many teens in America that are completely computer dependent. Please repeat after me, "I am smarter than the computer." Computers are not supposed to be smarter than humans because we are the ones who make the programs and software...they don't make us....let's go back to the basics.....

On another note......I'm going to China tomorrow....Watashi wa ashita Chugoku ni ikimasu. yeeyyyyyyy....I'll be back on July 1st so I'll update it then or on the 2nd......

.......until next blog with pictures....I think that will be above this blog......
