I'm a 32 year old SBF here in Japan teaching conversational english. One may ask, "What led to my decision to do this?" I would say that a variety of factors played a role in my decision, but I'm glad I made it. I'm a black girl found.....

Thursday-November 30th, 2006-
-Ok, so, I've received a couple of emails asking how my Thanksgiving went....Well, I was supposed to go to this city called Shibuya to eat a traditional Thanksgiving dinner....by the way, I don't know how traditional it could have been without the Mac-n-Cheese...they had everything but.....anyway, I was supposed to go there but it required reservations, and it was sold out, along with three other places I called, so I recuperated a bit from the night before and later on went with my roomates to another Nova Teacher's apartment two towns over....it was raining that evening and when we got out of the train station, I slid, like Molly from Saturday night live, "Superstar." So, that was once, and then walking down the stairs from the station, I come tumbling down....it was not a pretty sight, but it was funny as you know what.....I attributed my two falls, to the two times I fell spiritually since being here at the time....I know, I know...too deep right? But that's me....so I go to Amanda's apt...and my roomate, and I cook Mac-N-Cheese....I was like, "Yeah Boyeeee" and no it wasn't Kraft, but it was everything except baked....you see, they don't have conventional ovens over here for the most part....all of their food is fried or steamed or boiled so they don't need ovens....In my apartment, we have a little oven, that's like a toaster, but you can't fit a big casserole dish in it....

-Speaking of accomodations, I don't know if I mentioned that I have a heated toilet....that's real nice, and in many public places the toilets are heated, of course I don't sit on the public toilets, but you can tell a heated from a non-heated one by all the controls on the side of them....they have heat, a bade....(I'm probably not spelling it right), but ya know the thing that sprinkles water on you after you go, they even have a hot fan or a warm fan that you can turn on when you go....

-Speaking of going, I just have to tell this story, I told my roomate I would blog about it, and she said it was cool....so, I come home yesterday and saw that she had got home from work, so I asked her how her day went, and she was like, "Karon, this is going to sound nasty or weird but I've had the _ _ _ _ _ all day(another word for bowel movements) and she was like , "My a_ _ has been on fire all day!" I started laughing and said yeah, that's happened to me when I've had too much orange juice.....she was like, "Are you kidding, I had a whole carton of orange juice the other day, and I've been popping Vitamin C pills like crazy!" I just bussed out laughing...it was sooooo funny. She was like,"I'm seriously hurting, it feels like someone split my _ _ _....I couldn't stop laughing....I was like, lessoned learned. She is trying not to catch the same cold that I have and that my other roomate, is catching....

-It seems like everyone has colds now....when I first got here, and I saw people with facial hospital masks on, I was like, uh oh...SARS.....but that's China I think...people wear masks when their sick here as a sign of respect, not to infect others with their germs....I don't know if it works because like I said there's a bug going around. I've also lost my voice because Sunday night into Monday morning I was out with my co-workers for the new teacher welcoming party and going away party for someone....We went to Karaoke.....I'm Karaoke'd out for real now.....it was lots of fun though....I'm going to share some of the pictures from the dinner....I was the only female teacher that went, but some of the staff that was Japanese went, and they're female....At every branch there's a Japanese manager....there's also a native english speaking Area Manager that has several managers.....and all of the office staff are Japanese.....the teachers are obviously native english speakers....at my branch, two of us are American, one Canadian, two British or POM's as we call them (Prisoner of her Majesty) one Scottish, one Irish (Ireland Irish), two Australian, one Trinidadian but also claims NY....one NewZealander, and one French, only because his mother's French, but I think his father is British and he grew up in England, but can't stand the Brits...he reps France....anyway, that's enough for now, until next blog........
